“Milk Apple with Vinegar”
Sunday, March 23rd, 2008
Here’s my first post from a 2-week trip around China and Vietnam. Unfortunately, I’m here on business and NOT drink tourism, but there’s no reason why I can’t do both, right?
So I arrived in Dongguan, China last night after a long flight via Detroit and Tokyo. For lunch today, I found a fancy coffee and tea place just across the street from my hotel.
The menu had really bad English translations, so it was a little unclear what the options were.
So, when I saw “Milk Apple with Vinegar” I thought for sure it was a mistranslation of something.
Unfortunatly, it was not.
This drink was EXACTLY what the name implies. 1/2 glass of apple cider vinegar (maybe a touch of apple juice in there, not sure) and 1/2 glass of creamy whole (maybe fresh?) milk.
The milk floats on top and they are served completely unmixed. After trying them separate using the bendy straw, I realized that mixing was going to be the only way I could stomach it.
I barely made it through this interesting drink but upon closer inspection of the menu afterwords, there’s a whole section of “vinegar drinks”. I picked the only one with milk as far as I can tell. I will not have it again.
I had a fancy sweet tea (with fruit & nuts floating in it) to wash it down.
