Ok, I’ll drink your wine, but I still think Nascar is stupid
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006I wrote this blog post a few weeks ago really ragging on Richard Childress and his wine.
Well, here is my official apology… and more than that, my retraction. Two Sundays ago, THE GIRL and I went to Childress Vinyards for their “Music in the Vinyards” thing. Really nice afternoon. We took their tour, did their tasting, and bought a bottle we got drunk on with in their field. Really nice.
If you are within a reasonable distance to the vinyard, this guy has done it right. Most NC vinyards that have sprung up in the last 5 years are mom&pop low-budget places spending every last dime on next year’s grapes. Not Mr. Childress. This guy has already made his millions racing cars, and he has built a beautiful castle, complete with bistro, shop, and area for a live band with toilets you can get to from outside. An excellent Sunday afternoon when they have live music; and their “Blush” is not bad at all for a BYOfood picnic (which the sign says they don’t allow since they sell their own food, but at least the employee we talked to said is totally fine… we got away with it in the wide open).
A littel piece of Trivia that the girl who served our tasting told us… “JOHN” of “John’s Plumbing” in Greensboro (you’ve seen the vans) is a major share holder in Childress Vinyards. Mmmmm. Sewage and Wine.
