    Hey Derick,
Happy Holidays. Anyhow, I checked out a book from the Library called: “Ambitious Brew- the story of American Beer”
    http://www.amazon.com/Ambitious-Brew-Story-American-Beer/dp/0151010129

Anyhow, the book is really fascinating because it talks about breweries like Budweiser, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller. What’s really interesting is that beers like Budweiser which are known for being watery and weak came about from results of the temperance movement in the 1840’s and 1850’s. For some reason, Lagers were deemed as “non-intoxicating” due to their lower alcohol content . SO Lager beer halls became very popular. It goes on to discuss how companies like Pabst and Budweiser were the first in the US to use for what was at the time the most technically sophisticated manufacturing processes to produce beer. They were the first to use pasteurization and mechanized bottling which in turn allowed them to export to all states and other countries.Sort of makes me have a tad more respect for them as innovators even though I’m not as huge a fan of the product.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten in it, but it also talks about the micro-brew movement of the 70’s and 80’s such as Sierra Nevada as well as some of the older breweries like Yuengling. I’d recommend it!

    Hey Derick,
Guess wut? I bought a nice big 12 pack of Old Milwaukee at the grocery store. Why? Because the stuff was a whopping $3.99! That’s the cheapest beer I believe I’ve ever bought. I’m not sure what the alcohol content is, but I can drink through 4-5 of them and basically feel just ever so slightly pleasant. Not even remotely buzzed. I don’t know… some days I get in the mood to have utterly crappy working man beer. By the way- did you hear that Shlitz is now being made again?
